Supercomputer CompanyCase Study: Supercomputer Company

Software Services
A major High-Performance Computer Company (sometimes called supercomputers) had won a multi-million-dollar contract to build an ultra-high-performance computer and related operating system software for the Department of Energy.

challenge

The project was poorly managed and almost went into default.  Brainware Partners was brought in to provide on-site project management, ensure that all milestone tasks were completed and paid for as well as forming cordial relations which were often contentious between the two companies.  It was originally intended to be a 3-month engagement, but it lasted nearly two years.

solution

Both parties considered Brainware Partners part of their team, allowing Brainware Partners to act as honest broker while suggesting paths each could take to gain the confidence of the other party.  Brainware Partners had to learn thousands of pages of very complex software and hardware design documents and be able to converse about them with each party.  Brainware Partners successfully accomplished this task, leveraging its own technical capabilities based on prior experiences over the past 30 years.

results

The project was completed and completely paid for.  The customer was extremely satisfied.  The computer center became a showcase for other Department of Energy sites.  After the computer company no longer required Brainware Partners’ services, the customer hired them to continue working various issues and other projects.
